DCS Customer: Arban & Carosi, Woodbridge, VA

This project demonstrates an impressive and thoughtful integration of terracotta and metal panel assemblies, judges said. Clean and consistent joinery between a diverse range of assemblies is achieved. “The fabrications demonstrate the high quality and consistency of precast finishes in exposed areas. Overall, the precast components complement the large expanses of the curtain wall and portray a certain lightness to the overall project.”

Pepco Waterfront Substation

DCS Customer: Arban & Carosi, Woodbridge, VA

Contextual design and response to historical rowhouses assists in successfully breaking down scale and massing in this project, judges said. “Integration of historical brick detailing into façade assists in blending with surroundings. Various overlapping brick colors/masses facilitate a more approachable and pedestrian-friendly facility.”

DCS Customer: Northern Design Precast, Loudon, NH

Featuring yellow in the base, with wheat and red pigments in treads and risers, judges recognized the successful utilization of precast material to efficiently achieve stylistic requirements. “Complexity and detailing were obviously extensive due to curvilinear geometries inherent in the design. Integration of various inlaid materials highlights the ability of precast to serve as both structure/ back-up or finished façade materials. Consistent finish quality is present throughout the components.”

Judges said this project fully embraces the use of architectural precast as a focal point. “The restricted material palette allows various outdoor spaces created by the stepped massing and the intricate and delicate patterning of the façades to reveal the complexities of the project. As you get closer to these façades and outdoor spaces, the thoughtful intersections of overlapping assemblies are revealed and are able to be fully appreciated.”

Norfolk Consolidated Courts Complex
DCS Customer: Arban & Carosi, Woodbridge, VA

The Norfolk Consolidated Courts Complex demonstrates expansive precast applications that achieve a rich, diverse series of rhythms and textures across the project, judges said. “Inlayed materials around the base of the building beautifully complement the earth-toned textured precast applications that comprise the remainder of the assemblies,” judges said.
