DCS Supports Racquet for Autism
FEBRUARY 2020
DCS believes in giving back to the community, and one of the many causes it supports is Racquet for Autism, an event that took place January 25 at the Wisconsin Athletic Club in West Allis, Wisconsin.
This is the 6th year of the event, created and run by DCS’ Jim and Jimmy Crawford. Along with the actual racquetball tournament there is a silent auction that raises additional funds. Besides running the event, DCS is a primary sponsor and donates to the silent auction as well.
This particular cause has a personal connection for the family-owned company. Jack Madlung, the grandson of DCS’s Jim Crawford, has autism. The event raised $18,175.00 this year for Islands of Brilliance—a Milwaukee-based organization that focuses on helping adolescents with autism. Islands of Brilliance utilizes project-based learning which allows their students to grow their intrinsic capabilities and practice communication, increasing their likelihood of independence as adults.
“This is a great cause. It's is a personal thing with us. But autism is pervasive. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that 1 in 68 children in the U.S. have autism. There are estimates that autism will soon impact 2 percent of the population. Islands of Brilliance and other organizations like it are doing great work. We want to do whatever we can to support these efforts,” says Crawford.
